A day in the woods

Spent the best part of the day tucked away in the woods carving Christmas trees. There is something about being surrounded by trees that takes me back to my childhood. I love having my studio/workshop space but you can't beat dappled sun on your back, birdsong, fleeting visits from red squirrels and of course trees and more trees.

Christmas trees

These are about 15 to 20 inches high and perfect for setting the scene for Christmas.

This batch has been sold but I'm making new ones on a daily basis.

Carved from a black pine stump.

River otter memorial bench

Made a start on a rearing horse today but that's another story.

This bench was commissioned by a local primary school, as well as a new sign for the garden gate.

Italian sheepdog pendant

Latest pendant based on the wolf head ones. For the owner of the wonderful Orsa, who is a "pastore abruzzese" or Italian sheepdog to you and me.

Three little chairs finished

The first three kids chairs are now finished and on sale at Formby's composting site, Walkers Organic Solutions, North End Farm, Formby bypass.

I'll be carving there a couple of days a week from now on so pop in if you're passing.

Two little chairs

Two chairs carved over two days at the SCA arts trail in Southport. The weather was beautiful but a little hot in  

chainsaw pants. Lots of drink breaks and chatting interspersed with soap carving workshops. All in all a great weekend.

SCA Arts Trail

The Arts Trail has come round again, full details in the brochure.
I will be there this Saturday and Sunday doing a little demo of chainsaw carving and you can also have a go at soap carving.
I'm also showing some work at Tracy's studio in Hightown, open both Sundays.

Three Trees

This started off as a stool but as it has developed it may simply sit as a sculpture in it's own right. Lots of ideas for new work have sprung from this, as well as seeing how to improve on this prototype I'd really like to carve an avenue of trees for a long bench idea. Just need to acquire a big enough log.

Fairy Chairs

I'm bringing out a new line of  'fairy chairs'. These will be on sale at my etsy and folksy shops by tonight hopefully.
The tiny ones are currently made from hazel coppice and are about 1.5 inches high.
I plan on making a range of sizes including full size child and adult seats in the near future.
